Field Cottage- Crondall

The Young family purchased this 1950s near derelict bungalow, with a vision of a new build to create a new comfortable family home. They were looking for a modern version of a traditional cottage, with enough space for their growing family. Of Key importance was maximum access to the rear garden with a great open view.

Located in the village centre, the desire to respect the village conservation area, which neighbours the site, had to be considered. Positioned in-between a bungalow and a manor house, achieving a good balance of scale for the new builds position was an important factor to the final design. A vast level change across the site required and allowed us to incorporate a sunken sun terrace to the rear, this allowed full easy garden access across the whole rear elevation.

The exterior design and finish was decided using plinth brickwork, render and cedar cladding, coupled with pale grey windows and a beautiful oak porch, for the cottage feel.
