Chestnut House – Ewshot
Chestnut Cottage was thoughtfully reimagined and extended to suit the needs of a young family. Originally a tired 1960s three bedroom house, it has been transformed into a spacious and modern family home.
We doubled the footprint with a high performance SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) extension and refreshed the exterior with a contemporary blend of grey render and sustainable Kebony timber cladding. Inside, a complete reconfiguration has turned the house into what we believe is the ideal family home: functional, open, and full of character.
The L shaped extension divides the plot into two distinct outdoor spaces: a sheltered, intimate courtyard and a generous side garden. By lowering the ground slab and stepping up the master suite above, we introduced dramatic ceiling heights of up to 3 metres in the main living space. This not only adds spatial drama, but also takes full advantage of the vaulted ceiling enabled by the SIPs construction. Bringing light, height, and a sense of calm into the heart of the home.
The project was featured in two magazines, Real Homes and Home Building and renovating. The articles can be seen below:
