Sun Acre – Farnham

This project transformed a tired 1960’s 3 bed house with a poor layout into a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom, well-proportioned modern home. The brief required the family to remain in residence throughout the build, so the extension needed to be self-contained from the main house.

The ground floor of the extension is set lower than the house so that the entertaining space can flow into the rear garden. The additional benefit of this lowered floor level is that the larger open plan space can enjoy significantly higher ceilings. The kitchen combines plywood kitchen units with a polished concrete floor to express the true materials. The exterior is clad in pre-weathered larch. The new two storey ‘porch’ connects the new to the old whilst providing an exciting arrival point into the house.

The project won numerous awards at the Waverley Borough Council Design Awards 2023, most notably the OVERALL DESIGN AWARD!
